Background

My name is James Devine. I am a father of three grown children and part of an extended family in NZ and the USA.

Based in Whangamata, living near my family and actively involved with Harbour Care trapping, Surf Lifesaving NZ, and Master’s Openwater Swimming.

My chosen life path, for a little over twenty years, is Education. I started in 2000 and have taught in NZ and in California, been a basketball and baseball coach, done numerous Outdoor Adventure trips with students in NZ and
California, and extended my teaching help for students with Math with after school tutoring.

Recently, at age 56 I became qualified as a Wellness Coach. I am an effective coach because of my many years as a competitive athlete in swimming, running, basketball, backpacking in the wilderness and sports coaching. Daily I practice breathwork and yoga and my weekly physical exercise is a combination of swimming, running and cycling. I am currently active in surf lifesaving as well, which requires me to be fit and healthy.

My qualifications and experience are:
Business: sales, running a small gardening/property management business.
Education: Intermediate to College school teacher in Sociology, Social Studies, Mathematics and Outdoor Ed
Parks and Recreation: lifeguarding in California for 5 seasons, CPR, First Aid and Wilderness First Aid qualified, PADI Openwater certified, small water craft certified
Community Service Volunteer: Conservation with Otanaiwanuku Kiwi Trust – Tauranga, Harbour Care Whangamata, Katikati Tramping club, American Red Cross, Redwood Foodbank, Graeme Dingle Foundation/Project K, and Whangamata Surf Lifesaving.
